About a Swedish marine wife, a stay at home mom with three wonderful children. After growing up in Sweden, living years in Switzerland, Germany, North Carolina, Kansas, Arizona, Okinawa/Japan, I -at the moment- call California "home". Moved back to the states from our beautiful, very much missed tropical island Okinawa in the end of July 2018 and since then I'm working on getting used to living in the desert again.

Back In The States
In the end of July, we left our beloved tropical island Okinawa and let the paradise to move to our new duty station- Twentynine Palms in the Mojave Desert in California. It's pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Aside from the base, there is next to nothing around here. Not much going on in town, it's very much run down and a very poor community. There is one grocery store "Stater Brother's" but there is no Walmart or Target around. The closest Walmart is in Yucca Valley, which is two towns over around 25 miles drive away. Next to that, there is nothing around. You have to drive "down the hill" which is locally known as drive over the mountains to get to Palms Springs.
When we drove here, we also took a detour and the roads we drove to get here were out in the desert for sure. Sand covered, some not even paved we really looked at eachother with the look of "Help!"
It sure is a change and it has not been easy for us with this transition. The housing situation was really bad. We didn't get a house on base which was so unexpected. We were told that we were on a waiting list for 3-6 months so we were expected to get a house pretty much right away as we had been on the list since March 2018. So come September, we were hoping to get one. Instead, we didn't get a house at all, but were not expected to get a house until another 4-6 months again..
To not make this too long, I'll write about our first time here in the fall in another post.
These pictures I wanted to take right away when we drove in to town, but as we came in on a backroad, we missed the sign then, and had to go back a week after to find it. The pictures came out pretty nice and a good sign for our new adventure!!
